Two Weeks To Go!

The weeks are going by quicker than ever; in two weeks from today, I will be on a plane headed for Nova Scotia! On Monday night, yes, I did something I had been contemplating all year long... I cut my hair. I put pictures below, but it is quite the change for me! I like it, but at the same time I miss my long hair... saying that, it is just hair. It will grow back!

On Tuesday... it was my birthday! My family decided to have my birthday on May 11th, before I go home so we could celebrate it together. My Dad baked me a cake, my Papa made me a ton of pictures and signs, and they all blindfolded me, taking me to a park. We played pin the tail on the turtle, we had a pinata, ate cake and just had fun together. Tuesday we also had our first chapel meeting as a class, spending over two hours contemplating ideas, decor, and everything that we want our service to be. It was really cool to see our class speaking up as a whole and trying to make something great. I got to help put together the worship team, and I was so excited to do that since it is something God has really put on my heart this year. We are still in the beginning stages of everything, but I will put pictures up when it happens!

Thursday and Friday I had one of the most hard projects that I've had to do all year long. As part of my inner city outreach track I am taking, they require us to be "homeless" for a day. More specifically, from 6pm Thursday night to 6pm Friday night. We had to dress and look as if we were homeless, we could not sleep in our beds, eat our own food, shower, brush our teeth, spend any of our own money (unless we beg for it), essentially anything a homeless person does not have access to, we don't either. I will admit, at the beginning of this project, I had a very bad attitude! I did not want to be put out of all the things in my life. Through this project, I learned that being homeless is very frustrating and inconvenient! They have to rely on others for any help they get, usually something that society is hesitant to give. The only thing I had to eat in that time was a donated Coke and french fry! The hardest part was Friday afternoon when they dropped us off at a gas station to beg for money. It was humiliating, but it opened my eyes. I was paired with another guy (for safety reasons) and we only made $2 out of everyone we asked of change. The next time I see a homeless person, I am going to help them in any way I can. As Christians, we are responsible to be Jesus with skin on... to be hope to the hopeless. When will we start, if not now?

Saturday I got to hang out with my O2 group, Audax. I love those girls so much! As the year is ending, I've had a chance to reflect on the progress our team has made as we've let God use us in their lives. One of my students got a full-ride scholarship to Harvard! It will be hard to say goodbye for the summer, but it comforts me to know I have a cadre of jr. high girls waiting for me at home. It will be so much fun to hang out with them again!

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

I have a lot of exciting things that happened this last week. Last Monday, I found out that I GOT A JOB!!!  I will be working at Rock Church this summer as their "summer student"; helping out with the Sunday School program, vacation Bible school, and around the office. It is a full time position so I will be busy this summer, but I am so excited! It truly is a blessing from God, and I am looking forward to getting started.

On Tuesday I found out I was chosen to be on the admissions call team, and we have begun meeting every day to recruit students for Masters next year. It really is a cool opportunity to talk to students in the same situation I was in a year ago. This place has changed my life, and its not a stretch to say that it could change theirs, too.

Wednesday night was O2 night, where as small groups we split up and have our own service for our kids. We talked about the importance of quiet times with God, and I spoke as well as led worship for our group at the end. That night I realized how much I have grown this year; I came in an insecure, fearful girl, and am leaving a confident, fearless girl. Although I am still fighting insecurities, I've realized that I am the only thing holding me back. God will use me only as much as I let him. I won't be silent anymore!

At the end of the year, every class is responsible to run a chapel. They come up with everything; the theme, worship team, message, and everything that goes along with it. On Thursday, I found out I was chosen to be one of the four leads for our chapel. We mediate the discussions, solve conflicts, set meeting dates and deadlines, and organize our class. It is going to be a lot of work, but I'm excited of the privilege to lead our class!

Friday and Saturday were great days to hang out with my small group, Audax. We went to Charmaynes dance performance, and the next night a few of my girls slept over. It was great to hang out with them over the weekend!

Sunday was Mothers Day, and my family went to my Papa's apartment to cook lunch together. Today was our turn to plan a family time; we went to my Dad's favorite restaurant called Bojangles. Then we took them to a lake nearby, were we got out a ton of pool toys we bought and had fun swimming around. I have enjoyed my Masters family a lot this year, and I know being a mom next year will be a great joy for me.

The countdown is on: in three weeks from today, I will be HOME!

Monday, May 3, 2010

This past week was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. From Saturday to Tuesday we worked at the Georgia Dome at a huge Microsoft convention. We acted as greeters and ushers for the various sessions, and it was easy work for what we were paid. Even though we were fed all you can eat catered food, it was easy for some to get bad attitudes. Especially on a 18 hour shift! God really showed me his goodness through the experience. We got paid $14 an hour to raise money for our tuition, so Masters can keep running and charge us more than a thousand dollars less than what our tuition should be. A lot of students couldn't afford this place without these fundraisers, so why are we complaining over them? We should be glad! It's funny how God can change your whole perspective on things.

Wednesday was our mid-week day off, as we got in late from the fundraiser the night before. Heather and I decided to go to the pool and swim for a few hours, then head to Sonic for half priced drinks. We went to oxygen that night to meet up with our kids, and hung out afterward with a bunch of other girls. One thing I've learned this year is that if you don't take care of yourself, you are no good to anyone. It is so true: you need days off!

Thursday and Friday were "regular masters days". We had prayer, scripture studies tests, life lessons, lunch, and split off. What was not regular was the fact that Mike Rogers came in town Friday! Mike is a very successful business man on Jeanne's Youth Leaders Coach Board. He came in town to visit and just be around the Masters gang, which we all enjoy so much. We had a session where we could ask him anything, and I have pages of notes from it. Mike loves the rain, and he told us that it always rains when he leaves. Sure enough, its raining today- in the midst of a very sunny few weeks!

Last night we had a girls only pool party. It was quite the sight! We just had fun, and it was so good for us all to hang out together; these are the memories I will remember. Four weeks from today, I will be moved out and on my way back home... it's crazy to think about!

Saturday, April 24, 2010

This week has gone by so quickly. Coming home from our missions trip, we had Saturday and Sunday off to rest and get laundry done. On Sunday afternoon, my roommate Danielle and I found a lake (a huge deal in Atlanta, because there is hardly any) and went out for some sun and swimming. While we were laying out and getting tans, I heard it was snowing in Nova Scotia... sorry guys!

Later that night, Beth and I headed to the airport to pick up Pastor Mike for cadre!!! It was so exciting to have him here, and see him get poured into by one of the greatest youth pastors in America. He left early Wednesday morning, but at least I get to see him in June! Speaking of cadre, we had another one on Monday and Tuesday. This one was extra special because it was the 2nd year members last one. We had a lot of surprises for them, and it was a bittersweet goodbye. To be a part of something that strengthens youth pastors all over America really is a priviledge. They will go home refreshed to reach out to all of their youth... it such a cool thing!

Wednesday we got back into the swing of things and had regular classes, followed by Oxygen that night. Pastoy Corey brought the fire with an incredible message on controlling your mind. We all went home with something to think about and apply in our own lives.

Thursday night was definitely a highlight of the year for me. We went to clean Jeannes house after cadre, and by the time we were done, we were tired and ready to go home. Just then, Pastor Sam came in with groceries and a big smile on his face. Jeanne and Bethany are gone to Rhode Island, so he was going to be home alone for the next few days, and he was so appreciative of our hard work cleaning he invited us to stay for some mac and cheese. Of course we couldn't decline! As he was cooking for us, he told us stories of all the things he has cooked before, and we were surprised at his experience. Despite his skill, he cooked the noodles far to long, causing them to fall apart and clump together. Then he added Vanilla soymilk to the mix; and a ton of butter. He was so excited for the meal that he got out the Christmas tablecloth and placemats! We called the guys doing yardwork in to join us, and we all sat down together to enjoy our "meal". Needless to say, none of us finished our super cheesy, clumpy macaroni pudding with a hint of vanilla. We all had a good laugh over it though, and I can say I had dinner with Pastor Sam!

Yesterday we had class and a leadership meeting as a small group. It was great to reflect on how far we have come, and what we can improve on, as well as having fun! The next few days we are working at a Microsoft conference to raise money for our tuition. I'll admit, not one of the things I would love to do... but our food is catered and buffet style, so at least I will be eating well!

Missions Trip to California

What an amazing time we had in California! Thank you so much to everyone who supported me through prayers and finances. God did a great work with our team, and you were a part of it! In a little over a week we had fed over 1500 families, and did various kids ministry programs. Here is a day to day look at our intinerary:

Thursday: Depart from Atlanta at 4am, arrive in Los Angeles at 12 am. We drove an hour or so to Isaiah's Rock, a food distribution centre right in the King families home. The family takes shifts around the clock, feeding anyone that comes to their door, as well as handing out groceries twice a week. They were such a blessing to us! They shared heart about their ministry, and then we went to Operation Blessings warehouse. We finished off the day with a time of worship, Jody shared a few words, and then we had the rest of the night to settle in.

Friday: We helped put on a service and hand out groceries at Isaiah's Rock. Over 400 families showed up, and even though the majority spoke Spanish, we got to pray with some of them for healing and salvation. That lasted a good part of the day, and after we went up to the mountains of California and had a cookout- it was a great time! Operation Blessing has their own cook on hand, so we ate really well the whole week. We had another time of worship and drove home late in the evening. It was a great team bonding experience, and I will remember that night for a long time to come!

Saturday: We worked with RedEye: a ministry Jeanne's son Justin Mayo started at the LA Dream Centre. Their main mission is to work with Hollywood youth and get them involved in their community by volunteering and having a positive impact. We went to the governmental housing section of town to pick up trash, and play with the kids at the playground. They were adorable, and I loved the experience. Justin gave us a tour of the entire Dream Center, then we went hiking up the Hollywood mountain! It was a great exercise, and a great time to get to know the staff and what they are all about. We got stuck in traffic for a few hours, but managed to make it home in time for worship and a few words from Clifton, the cook!

Sunday: We went to Saddleback Church- you might know their head Pastor, Rick Warren. He wrote The Purpose Driven Life! Israel Houghton is their worship leader, and their membership is at 40 000! We had a tour of one of their 40 campuses, needless to say I was impressed. After church. Operation Blessing treated us to lunch at Johnny Rockets, an old fashioned burger joint. We finished off the day by visiting Laguna Beach and Newport Beach to have fun, fellowship, and a nightly service led by Raymond.

Monday: This was our "Fun Day"! We spent it wandering around Hollywood Boulevard, seeing the sites and finding stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We found Billy Graham's! After that, we came home and had a delicious meal and evening service with Haley speaking.

Tuesday: We worked with a food distribution center at The Rock Church (coincidental, I know!) Their church has over 17 000 members, and their campus was equally amazing as Saddlebacks. We fed over 600 families that day, and then we went to the Yorba Linda Vineyard for our evening worship and speaking. This church had less than a hundred members, but it was funny how this church was where God spoke to me the most. It really is not about numbers! It was this night that God really spoke to me about the fear in my life, and how I was letting it hold me back from God using me for great things. I prayed and let go of my fears, deciding to trust God instead!

Wednesday: We went to the Fred Jordan mission, a food distribution center located in the roughest area of all LA. We had a service for the women and their children, giving them a meal, clothes, and groceries after. I got to work with their children, and it was amazing to me the state that they were in. Many were homeless, dirty, and we could hardly communicate with them because they all spoke Spanish. We managed to show them God's love though, and by the time they had to leave, many didn't want to! After the Fred Jordan mission, we went to a park in the lower income housing section of town. One guy told us of the gang shootings that take place frequently there, and how a nine year old boy was shot there only weeks ago. It broke my heart. A few hours later, nearly 200 kids showed up for our MetroKidz service (remember Bill Wilson?) and some of them were only a year old, with their parents nowhere in sight. The entire time, I had kids hanging off me. I fell in love with this little boy named Ernie, only four years old. He was so precious, and every kid I met that day has a piece of my heart. We ended the day with a service, and Dan shared a few words.

Thursday: Operation Blessing surprised us by taking us to DISNEYLAND! It was fun to relax and just be together and share the experience. After our fun filled day we came home and had evening service, going around and thanking each other for their hard work.

Friday: We said our goodbyes and went home!

God really moved on our missions trip. By helping all of these people, I realized that my whole life I asked God what I am supposed to do with my life. I realized this trip that it's not about me, it's about the people in need. I see homeless people in a whole new way now. There is so much need in this world, and I am challenged as to what I can do about it. Are we really doing all we could be?

Below are some pictures of our trip:
(Isaiahs Rock: the backyard where the hungry are fed, a line of families waiting for groceries, me at the MetroKidz service, the mountain we hiked and Hollywood sign, Justin Mayo and our team, us and the LA Dream Center, me on the teacup ride at Disneyland, me in front of Isaiah's Rock saying a big THANK YOU!)

Leading up to and including Spring Break!

Before break I found out some exciting news... I have been accepted back for a second year!!! I am so excited, and I am glad that most of the girls will be back next year with me. I can’t wait to come back and learn even more. After we found out, we had family time: we went to Kroger to buy groceries, and made dinner together, watching The Blindside. It was the perfect way to celebrate the news!

I am sure glad that spring break came when it did, because the past week involved late, late nights, and early mornings. On Thursday we had our trimester exam, and had to memorize 32 scriptures. It’s funny, because in high school, I hated to study; but learning these verses will help me for the rest of my life. I don’t mind studying here at Masters at all! It’s great to know that I am learning something that I can actually use.

Friday night we had a Bible study for our O2 girls; only two of them ended up showing, but it was great to help them dig into God’s word. We went through Ephesians 2, stopping every few verses to talk about what they thought it was saying. After that, we had fun! We joked around, and spent some good time together. I love how we are growing closer; and how I get to help them prepare for next year.

On Saturday, Melissa, Faith, Crissy, Lyn, and I drove off to Florida for spring break! We had so much fun, it truly was a week of relaxing. We went shopping at the Mall of Millenia, and The Loop; and got some great deals! We also went to Melbourne Beach, The Dolphin Resort at Disney to swim, and Clearwater Beach in Tampa. Yes, I did put on sunblock, and yes, I did burn anyway! I also enjoyed going to Downtown Disney with the girls as well as Universal Studios to see a movie and walk their Citywalk. I loved how much we got to sleep as well; we would go to bed early, sleep in late, and take naps! On Easter Sunday we drove back after church and came home late Sunday night.

Today I am unpacking, doing laundry, and repacking, ironically. We leave for California THIS THURSDAY!!! I cannot believe how it is already time to go on our missions trip. Once again, thank you all so much for your support, whether it was financially or through your prayers. We all have a heart of expectancy for this trip, and I am so excited to see how God will use us. I come home next Friday, April 16th, so you can expect pictures and an updated blog then!

Below are some pictures of our adventures in Florida :)

Tailgate and Retreat

This week has involved last minute preparation for spring retreat, and tailgate night! For those of you who don’t know, we had a tailgate party to get everyone excited for the retreat this weekend. It involved decorating a car with your small group colors, having a cooking contest, and a small group chant contest. The winner of any category would win a $75 scholarship to the retreat, and so the stakes were high. My group Audax won the car decorating contest, which was such a blessing to our kids. We all were dressed up in workout gear (the retreat theme was The Biggest Loser) and I wish we took more pictures because it was a great night.

Tuesday involved us driving to Macon as a missions team to work at a food distribution centre. We made 350 boxes of food to hand out to needy families, and the work experience will come in handy when we go to California. Speaking of which, it’s coming up so soon! I fly out April 8th.

Last Wednesday I had a wonderful surprise- my brother came to visit! In January he had to leave in order to go be with his family, and so it was so good to see him again. We all went out to Sonic as a family, and had a great time. He is doing well, and I am so proud of him for living for God on his own. We all hope he can come for graduation and see us all again!

The retreat was a huge success. On Friday I found out I was selected to be on the retreat worship team, which I was so excited about! We played three times, and I am so glad for the opportunity. I loved to have the chance to pour into my small group girls lives over the weekend, as well as just hang out with them and get to know them better. They have their struggles, but I love to be able to help them out any way I can. They are such a blessing to my life! God totally did things in their lives, and I am so happy that they want to know him more.

Arriving home on Sunday, I was faced with reality again. This week we find out if we are accepted back for a second year, we have our trimester exam on Friday, and on Saturday I will be heading out to Florida with Crissy, Faith, Mel, and Lyn! Today I have been trying to find a job for the summer, and get a student visa figured out for next year. It’s getting stressful as I reach dead ends, but I know God will make a way for me to come back next year. I just need to trust him and pray about it! Please pray for me that I find a full time job, and I get a student visa. Those are both definite musts if I want to come back! Below are the few pictures I took at retreat: the set design, our small group Audax, and myself at worship practice. Also are a few from the tailgate party: our car, us doing our workout routine, and just having fun. I love all the memories I make here :)

Last Friday we headed into the church for prayer and to work on Tokens, yet again! Leading that team has taught me so much about being a leader. It's not as easy as it looks! It's just a little idea of what I have to look forward to if I return for a second year. Later that night my family headed over to my mom Gabby's house to watch movies and just hang out. It was a great way to end the day, because we all needed to relaxation!

Saturday was the big day... second year interview day!!! It went so well. They told me how great I was, and what they admired in me, as well as what I should change in order to return for a second year. I'm glad I recorded it, because it was hard to take notes. I just wanted to listen and hear what they had to say! I'm glad for the experience, and even now I'm taking into account what they've said to me. Later that day, we had human video practice. Human videos, or dramas as they call it in Canada, are written to a specific song and we act out a story along to it. This time we all had two shirts to wear: a black one on top and a white on bottom. They each had a label on them, and the idea was that God changed us from the black label to white label. My two shirts read "Security in Guys" to "Security in God". In the human video, we acted out a scene depicting our black label, and Jesus would come and take off our black shirt to reveal our white shirt, and our new identity. I wish I had someone record it, because I am told it was very moving. We stayed at the church until the early hours of the morning practicing, but I didn't mind. I love playing a part in human videos, and I love how God uses us to get across a message. It really is a privilege to be used by him!

Today was my day off, and I slept in I am proud to say! Amanda and I went out to the mall, and since then I've been doing homework. We are in a pretty busy season with exams next week, retreat this weekend, and the regular day to day activities. My missions trip to California is coming sooner than I can imagine, and next Saturday I will be on spring break, headed to Florida! The year is flying by... but I love every day here, no matter how challenging it can be. I'm learning and loving Jesus more and more each day.

BIG NEWS!

This past week involved a lot of prepping for our spring retreat next weekend. I am helping to lead the retreat tokens team, and we are responsible for making 290 tokens for our kids. It is a lot of work, but it's coming along slowly but surely!

Last Friday I passed in my application for a second year. It'c crazy to think how the year has gone by, and I only have a few short months left... I'm starting to apply for summer jobs, if you know of anything let me know! My only requirement is that it's full time- if I am going to come back, I'm going to need a lot of tuition money!

We had cadre again on Monday and Tuesday, and I had the awesome opportunity of babysitting a 14 month old named Zoe. I didn't really get to experience cadre as I was at the hotel taking care of her, but I enjoyed it just the same. I always love to work with children when I get the chance!

Alright everyone, so I finally found out where we are going for our missions trip... Orange County, California!!!!! I am beyond excited at this point. We will be working with various food distribution centers and warehouses, one even being located in a families home, Jeanne's son Justin Mayo with his non profit organization called Red Eye, and we will be doing kids ministry as well. This is a huge opportunity for us, and although our missions trip details have changed significantly in the past week, I totally believe that God has something awesome for us to do there. I can't wait to share with you all that God will do!

Sick- ick!

This last week was full of rest and relaxing, but not by choice.  As of last Monday I became sick! It started with a swollen throat, and then the cough came... and then the runny nose... By Friday I had to take a day off and stay in bed for the day. As much as I'd like to say I feel much better, I'm still battling symptoms. If you get a chance, please pray for me! I would love to feel better.

I still had a lot of great memories this week, despite being sick. On Monday I went to the mall with Beth, Paige, and Amanda. It was great to just get out of the apartment and hang out! The next day while many were at Jeannes for cadre, we went to the church to make tokens. Tokens are little crafts we make that Jeanne hands out as a remembrance of what she speaks on. We had one day to make 285 chalkboards, and we worked twelve hours on them. We were so proud of ourselves when we thought we had them all done, but then to our shock we found a box full of unpainted chalkboards! So the next night after Oxygen we stayed at the church until 2:30 am to finish them off. They were needed for the next day, so we had no choice. It's when you are up into the early hours of the morning, and you are sick and tired, that your true character is tested. I will admit that I did not have the most positive attitude, but God used that opportunity to stretch me even more.

We had all heard rumours, but on Thursday it finally came a reality. Thursday was the day that they handed out second year applications. Now, this may not seem like such a big deal, but I think everyone's heart jumped a beat as Pastor Jordan told us about the papers in his hands. I do believe that God has called me back for a second year, but filling out the application just made me realize how much I have failed at this year. I don't deserve to come back, but by the grace of God I know that doesn't matter to him. He sees my flaws, but loves me just the same. Our application of twenty five thought provoking questions is due this Friday, and we will soon after have an interview with the entire staff, and Jeanne Mayo herself. I will know by spring break if I am accepted for another year- less than 4 weeks away!

After being in bed all day Friday, trying to feel better, I got up and had to leave my apartment. I was going stir crazy! Amanda and Beth invited me over and we went to Amanda's apartment to eat pizza and watch movies. It was so much fun! I realized that I haven't really just hung out like that in a long time. I am always working or planning something here at Masters, and it's a great thing. I've learned though that I need time to just enjoy my friends and do nothing. So I'm going to make it a priority once a week!

Saturday night I hung out with my family and we talked about our "four questions". Two days before at family time, we went to the airport because it represented going home for all of us. We then talked about how we have been doing since coming back from home, and if we've been growing in all the areas we desire to. Our discussion went so long that we had to meet again and finish what we all had to say. After that, we went to see Princess and the Frog at the dollar theatre. I fell asleep halfway through, but I didn't mind if I was only paying $2 for it.

Right now it's 12:16 here, which means it's officially my mom's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! I love you, I miss you, and I will be calling you in the morning. I hope you have a great day!!!

No More Laziness!

It feels weird to be updating my blog again after only a few days, but a lot has happened so I might as well! On Friday we had morning chapel, and Pastor Jordan brought a message we all needed to hear. He reiterated some key points from messages all year long, but he also encouraged us not to be lazy. I think we all have been in a season where we just didn't have as much motivation as we did in September. We have come so far, and yet we were in "coast mode". His message encouraged us to make the most out of the following fifteen weeks left at Masters. Yes, that's right- only fifteen weeks left! It's crazy how time flies...

Saturday night was a big event at the Tabernacle- Awaken! It's a city wide worship service held at our church twice a year, where we come together to simply worship God. People were set free, the atmosphere was amazing, and it was a lot of fun! It was a cool sight to see people of all ages worshipping Jesus on a Saturday night, a night where you could be doing anything else. God totally showed up, and I learned to never take his presence for granted.

Yesterday we had the usual: sunday morning class, church, meetings with our small group leadership,  but what wasn't so usual was the ladies conference I had the chance to help set up and serve at. The theme was "God's Divine Romance" and so we had a lot of Valentines day decorations, a waterfall, and cloth draped from ceiling to floor. We managed to pull it off and light the candles just in time, and the ladies loved it.

Today is my day off, so I slept in a bit and headed to the gym. Ever heard of the saying "Freshmen Fifteen"? I'm trying to win the battle against that. A bunch of us are off to the mall later today, and for now I'm just cleaning the apartment and having some time to myself.

I was recently told an anonymous donor sent me $25 towards my missions trip. Whoever you may be, thank you SO MUCH! May God bless you as you've blessed me. Also, to my Aunt Sharon- Thank you for the card and donation! Your decision to pray and help me out means so much, thank you for standing by me all of these years! My trip is only weeks away, and I only have $100 more to raise. As of right now, it looks as if we are going to Galveston, Texas, to help rebuild a forgotten community hit by hurricane Katrina years ago. Keep watching the news, because if any major disaster occurs in America the next month, we will be headed there!

What a filled two weeks! I had a beautiful day off on Monday with Mel at Little Five Points, a little indie town turned tourist attraction. We walked around, took pictures, and just enjoyed having some time to ourselves. Check for some pictures below!

On Wednesday, we had life lessons at a nearby park, and learned about embracing the season that God has us in right now. It couldn't have come at a better time! I've learned that there is something to be learned in whatever season you are in, and God has you there for a reason. I'm going to remember that wherever he takes me!

Friday we had a nice relaxing day as a group. We were told to wear comfy clothes and we played games, watched a movie, and had a BBQ. It is so nice to just have a relaxing day, and as a team we needed it.

We had another ladies cadre on Monday and Tuesday, the biggest cadre yet with 57 women! I was originally on the kitchen team, but I got pulled to take care of a beautiful 3 month old baby named Brooklyn. She was so perfect, hardly ever crying, and I loved every minute of taking care of her. I can certainly wait to have my own, but I know I am going to love being a mom!

In order to keep our tuition low, we do fundraisers throughout the year to help cover costs. From Wednesday to the following Tuesday we took a 7 hour drive to Daytona for a fundraising opportunity with the Daytona 500- that’s NASCAR in case you didn’t know! We were in charge of keeping the facility clean while over 160 000 people came for the races. It was a lot of work, a lot of long days, and it was cold too! I made some great memories with everyone however, and looking back on it, I am glad I had the opportunity to go.

01/02/10

It was my AC Mom's birthday on Monday, so for family time we surprised her by taking her out to lunch, then blindfolding her and taking her to Graves Park. Awaiting was our whole family, and all of her children from last year, and their children- quite the crowd! She was so surprised, and we had even more food there for everyone to eat. It was cold and windy, but sunny, so we managed to get a few good pictures of the day!

This week we had Experience: a few days where prospective students come to check out Masters. We had 8 girls stay in our apartment with us; thats 14 girls total and 2 bathrooms! I met some amazing highschoolers and I am so excited to see some of them return in the Fall! Between the countless hours of practices, lost sleep, sleeping on the floor,  and sharing a bathroom with 7 other girls, I'd say it was still all worth it. They all left with more than just an understanding of what Masters is, but an experience with God. I love that I had a part of setting the atmosphere for them to meet him! With Experience taking up the week, not much really went on otherwise. Today, team Ireland and team Mexico are leaving for their missions trips, and it will be sad to see them go for 2 weeks! God is going to do some amazing things, as the teams are going with such hearts of expectancy. I can't wait to hear their stories!

25/01/10

This past week has been hard mentally, but I have learned a lot. I got to hang out with my small group gang, AUDAX, several times this week. From movies, to apples to apples, to 02 night, it's been really good to connect with them, since I have not been seeing them all on a regular basis. Our group is good at getting people to come out, but lacking on the spiritual side.  As a leadership team we are really praying to see more growth not for more kids, but for the ones we have to grow closer to God.

Experience is coming up, and so we have been busy preparing for that every day. Experience is three days where anyone interested in Masters can come, stay at the apartments with us, and see what we are all about. We have so many fun things planned, and I can't wait for them to come! I am a part of the sisterhood spotlight, and the worship team spotlight, where we just give a brief synopsis of how awesome our programs really are. We have a run-through with Jeanne tonight, I'm so excited!

Living with 5 other girls is not always a party, as I'm sure you have guessed. The past week, we have all been struggling to get along, and keep our apartment clean and organized. Tensions were building up, until on Friday when Pastor Adam called us into his office. Whoever was on trash duty threw it in the woods instead of the trash disposal, and the apartment maintenance people found out it was us. We got a probation, a $25 fine, and were requested to clean up around our apartment building the following Monday. At first, I was furious! I didn't throw the trash out there, and I didn't see who did it, so why should I be punished for it?! The next day at probation really changed my attitude, and helped me understand his reasoning for our punishment. We are an apartment, we all need to help each other out. If one of us fails, we all do. We needed to work on our communication as an apartment: if someone was running late and wouldn't be able to take out the trash, then we should help them out and do it for them. That's what being sisters is all about. We all grew closer during that probation, as we had to work together to get the tasks done. By the end of it, I was actually glad we had probation! This is just an example of the things we learn at Masters. Not just about God and his word, but every day things that make you a better person. God has been changing me the past few weeks so much, and I know I would never have had the motivation to change if I was at home. I love every day of being here, no matter how hard and testing it may be.

A Week of Transition

Where do I even begin to start? Last Monday and Tuesday was the Ladies Cadre. I met some wonderful pastors wives and youth pastors who had such a heart for their kids, and a heart after God. Every cadre I'm a part of, I love the experience even more. I can't wait for the next one!

On Wednesday we were back at the church for classes and oxygen that night. It was one of the most incredible worship experiences in my life, God was so there and I'm sure everyone felt it. He delights in the praises of his people, that's for sure!

I'm sure some of you are wondering about my missions trip with Operation Blessing coming up in April. I have to raise $300 US to cover my travel, food, and lodging expenses, and I am doing well so far. I have approximately $170 in... just $130 to go! I would like to ask you if you would partner with me and be one of my sponsors on this exciting mission. There are two ways in which I am seeking partnership, prayerfully and financially. Every little but helps, so it doesn’t matter how big or small. Also, please pray for me and our group, as well as for the hearts of the people with whom we will come in contact. Thank you in advance for your time and prayers. It means so much to me and those we will be ministering to. God is going to do great things, and I am going with a heart of expectancy! To send finances, you can send them to either me at our church address, or if you prefer, to my parents. They will make sure to get it to me! Here are the addresses:

On Friday, we had family time, and learned the sad news that our brother, Caleb, would be leaving Master's and heading back to Texas. Due to some serious health issues with his family, he needed to go home and take care of them. It was hard news to swallow, and I didn't realize how close our family was until this happened. We sent him off later that day, and although I have no idea why this would happen to him, I'm trusting that God knows. He works all things together for good, and I know that this is no exception. Caleb, you will be missed. We will see you at graduation!

Saturday was our day off, so my sister and I went shopping. It was good to get out and have some fun in light of the previous days events. On Sunday we were at the church all day, then we went to Christina's apartment for family time with the staff. We talked about Caleb leaving, played Balderdash, and just had fun. It was a great way to just relax, and our family needed it!

Coming up soon is experience, a fundraiser in Daytona, spring retreat, and cadres are coming every few weeks as well. It sure isn't going to get any less busy around here, but I love it!

Back to Masters!

Well this week has been the usual: amazing, challenging, and so much fun. Beth and I had a scare at the border, as we almost weren't allowed into America! We were held in security for nearly two hours while going through customs, and missed our flight from Toronto to Atlanta. When we finally were allowed in, I got on the next flight to Atlanta, but Beth had to get on the following flight as mine was full. Needless to say, we arrived that evening safe and sound. From that experience, I really got to put my trust in God. I knew that he didn't send us to Atlanta for just half the school year, and he would make a way for us. He did, and through that I got to see his faithfulness in every situation.

This week involved a lot of late nights preparing for cadre, experience, and working on the church renovations. Although we did not get an ideal amount of sleep, we worked hard and found our strength in the joy of the Lord. It was this week that I learned to have a good attitude and a servants heart. At the beginning of the year, I would have been upset for having to work so late. But now, I am actually enjoying the work as I know it is impacting countless lives for God. I think I'm growing!

Sunday was Legacy Sunday at the Tabernacle, where they honored members for their hard work and years of service. One woman has been attending for 72 years! I think it encouraged all of us to leave a legacy, and to do the best we can to make our lives count. After that we had family time: McDonalds and a dollar movie. Yes thats right, in America you can go see movies for a dollar! Today we are helping out with cadre, one of my favorite things. I love to meet people from all over the country, and Jeanne really does coach them well. They will leave here refreshed and ready to go back to their ministry, and impact hundreds of youth themselves. It is so exciting!

The next few weeks, if not months, are going to be more busy than ever. I will try to keep updating, but I can't promise I will have a lot of time to do so! Please keep me in your prayers, and God bless all my readers :)

The Last Week and Christmas Break!

The last week before break was very busy! On Sunday and Monday I was sick with the flu, and so I didn’t do much other than go to church and go to bed. On Monday, my roommates Allie and Danielle made a great big breakfast for us, I love them! I think it was one of the first times so far we have all eaten together: it’s hard because we are always on the run! Monday night we went to my sister Kilah and Melissa’s birthday party, then we had our apartment Christmas party. Lyn and Kasey made the treats, and got us all stockings to hang by our little Christmas tree. Then we went around to all the girls apartments and sang Christmas carols. It was a great night!

The next few days we were at the church long hours doing mailers, calling cadre members, going to classes, and studying for our exam on Friday every free moment! When it finally came around on Friday, I’m happy to say I think I aced it! Lyn and I then went to Burger King for a little celebration lunch. It was raining hard, but that didn’t stop us from singing in the rain under the safety of her umbrella! We had a Christmas party later that night at Jeanne’s, and said our goodbyes to everyone.

Beth and I were fortunate enough to fly together, so we got to have quite the experience navigating the busy airports of Atlanta and Toronto! When we finally got to Halifax, we were beyond excited. Our families were waiting with balloons, flowers, and my Dad even had a stuffed penguin for me! My two weeks at home consisted of visiting friends and family, doing some pre and post Christmas shopping, and of course, catching up on sleep! I think I napped at least once a day, every day! As I get ready to go back, we head into “busy season” at Master’s. I have yet to fully understand the meaning of that, but I’m sure I’ll blog about it when it happens. Until then, it’s hanging out with my family, and trying to fit all my presents into my two suitcases!
